The Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) exists to encourage and promote self-sufficiency; to advocate, motivate and educate individuals and families, empowering them to realize their full potential thus functioning effectively as members of our society. This will be achieved through the provision of therapeutic services and community based programmes enhanced by ongoing research and in partnership with key stakeholders.
Subject Matters handled:
A complete range of Social Work services to the people of the Cayman Islands through a cadre of qualified staff located on Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. DCFS provides a full scope of therapeutic social work interventions required to address child safeguarding, youth justice, family issues and elderly individuals. Services include the following:
- Adoption
- Foster and After Care
- Elderly- Geriatric Social Work
- Case Management and Support Services
- Youth Justice and Divergent Program
- Family Services providing direct support to Summary and Grand Courts and other related agencies.
- Community Development –empowering communities to find solutions to issues, whilst networking with community leaders and advocating for needed resources to bring about positive change.
- Residential care for children with disabilities who are Court Ordered to be placed in state care due child safeguarding concerns
- Adult Special Needs Program (ASNP)-Residential care for indigent elderly adults. Chair of Human Concern Cluster with oversight for Shelter Operations a sub-Committee of National Emergency Operations Committee (NEOC).
- Policy advice relating to the social issues and areas of expertise of the department.
