How To Assist

If someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, there are things you can do to help:

  • Talk to them, let them know you are there to support them and that you believe them. Be supportive, non-judgmental and listen.
  • Let them know it is not their fault and no one deserves to be abused.
  • Not pressuring them to do anything they don’t feel comfortable doing.
  • If children are involved, contact the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub and inform them of the situation.
  • Create a code word or emoji with them so if you receive or hear that from them, you will call 911.
  • Help them develop a safety plan or contact agencies that are able to support them.
  • Check-in with them afterwards.
  • Remember that you cannot ‘rescue’ them, but you can support them on their terms.

Alternately, you can direct them to the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre 24hr Crisis Line for additional support: 943-2422 For emergency support contact: 911
